The two bird watchers were looking forward to photographing tropical wildlife and taking a leisurely walk, so nothing was in place for their nightmare in Mexico. Aaron Paysan and Logan Howard were driving from Indiana to Cancun.

While they were walking through the countryside in search of a bird to photograph, a truck passed by, from which gunmen jumped out and approached the car. Luckily for the Americans, the militants said they were not in danger, but were warned not to move on.
